As an avid reader of the EarthMed blog, you already know that THC and CBD are two of the most well-known cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant and that both have been shown to have a number of potential health benefits. You probably also know that THC is the psychoactive cannabinoid that is responsible for the feeling of being “high” that is commonly associated with cannabis use, while CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid that has been shown to have a number of potential health benefits.
With weed becoming increasingly more widely accepted by society, more states are legalizing its consumption every election cycle. We have all heard of smoking, vaping, and eating cannabis products. But today, I want to discuss a particular way to consume marijuana through the largest organ of the human body – the skin.
THC and CBD found in marijuana can be absorbed through your skin using topicals, which are infused products that are applied directly to the skin. THC and CBD topicals are available in a wide variety of forms, including lotions, creams, balms, and salves, and they can be used to treat a wide range of conditions.
At EarthMed, we are not doctors, and the information contained in our posts is not intended to replace medical advice from a professional. That being said, some potential health benefits of using topical CBD and THC include, but are not limited to:
Pain Relief: THC and CBD have both been shown to have pain-relieving properties, and topicals containing these cannabinoids may be effective in relieving muscle and joint pain. You may even be able to use weed for period cramps and other forms of temporary discomfort.
Inflammation Reduction: THC and CBD have both been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, and topicals containing these cannabinoids may be effective in reducing inflammation in the skin and other areas of the body.
Skin Conditions: THC and CBD topical cream may be helpful in treating a variety of skin conditions, including acne, eczema, and dermatitis. CBD topicals, in particular, have been shown to have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, making them potentially effective in treating acne and other skin conditions.
Arthritis: THC and CBD topicals may be effective in reducing pain and inflammation associated with arthritis. A study published in the European Journal of Pain found that CBD topicals were effective in reducing inflammation and pain-related behaviors.
Multiple Sclerosis: THC and CBD topicals may be helpful in treating the muscle spasms and spasticity associated with multiple sclerosis (MS).
No Second-Hand Smoke: If you live with others, this could be a huge benefit for your family and other roommates. Smoking weed around cats and dogs is also worth avoiding.
It’s worth noting that the potential health benefits of topical THC and CBD vary greatly depending on the specific product and the individual. It’s always a good idea to speak with a weed-friendly healthcare provider before starting any new treatment, especially if you are pregnant, nursing, or have a serious medical condition. As with any new form of treatment, trial and error will be needed before finding the perfect combination of products that work for your specific conditions.
I personally don’t use cannabis topicals for my medical marijuana conditions, but I know people who love them. Medical marijuana helped me overcome my medical conditions, so I know firsthand how CBD and THC can change someone’s life. What are your thoughts on THC and CBD topicals?
